Chapter Eleven Done

I'm calling this chapter "The Mason's Son," as it introduces a tiny bit of Horatio's backstory and some more mystery. Mystery is good.

wordcountometer = 39,305!

I have no idea how long this is going to be. Lots of stuff needs to happen yet. There is going to be a murder very soon, in an upcoming chapter, and I'm still not sure which of two people the victim will be. I have the murderer and the location, but not the corpse. Well, we'll just see.

  1. I love this type of situation! I like when the writing leads to you getting to make a choice, and a death choice is a fun one!

    Are you familiar with the animated film Princess Mononoke at all? There's a brilliant death choice scene that I always think about when I set out to write something masterful.

  2. Davin: I think we have Princess Mononoke on our DVD shelf, but I haven't seen it. I'll check it out.

    My choice as to who to kill off will be based entirely on what I think the needs of the last act of the book will be. Which means that I'm going to work my way backwards from the final act to where I am now and see which character should go. I'll be asking myself a lot of if/then questions over the next day or so until I have an answer. The answer may also be that nobody gets killed. It might be--I just now realize--more interesting to have an attempted murder with the victim getting away and the perpetrator's identity widely broadcast. We'll see. It all depends, as I say, on which path best leads to the endpoint I have in mind for the story as a whole.
